The accused risk being remanded in custody.
They are due to make their first appearance before the judge of the first chamber this Wednesday, with a view to being formally charged. The investigation concerns the embezzlement of internship allowances intended for seventh-year medical students.
Alioune Sy, a former planner at the Ministry of Health, is suspected of manipulating the list of beneficiaries. In addition to his two personal phone numbers, he allegedly fraudulently registered the phone numbers of several relatives and associates, including members of his political movement, his wife, and his courier. These numbers were then used to collect allowances that were supposed to be intended for the students in question.
Among those arrested are Mame Bounama Diop, 39, a shopkeeper, and Al Hassane Sangaré, 29, a security guard. Presented as fake interns and members of the Ande Defar Grand-Dakar movement, they received several million CFA francs.
The former HR manager was also targeted

He allegedly added the contact information of several people in his circle to the list of beneficiaries, in addition to his own and his wife's phone numbers. These include Cheikh Sène, 41, an IT specialist described as his friend; his nephew, Mor Talla Faye, 28 (a driver); and his cousin, Fallou Sylla, 36, a shopkeeper. All were arrested as part of the investigation.
The investigation concerns allegations of criminal conspiracy, embezzlement of public funds, forgery and use of forged documents, money laundering, and complicity. The alleged losses amount to over 390 million CFA francs.
