Diourbel : pourquoi les prisonniers veulent voir Me Moussa Sarr
At the Diourbel Detention and Correctional Center (MAC), inmates began an indefinite hunger strike on Thursday to protest their detention conditions. Quoted by L'Observateur, they denounce, in particular, prison overcrowding—more than 800 inmates for only 20 cells—as well as lengthy periods of pretrial detention and delays in processing their cases. The inmates also cite difficult living conditions, insufficient food, and the lack of adequate medical care for some of the sick.
Faced with this situation which they describe as undignified, the strikers are demanding in particular a visit from the new Minister of Justice, Moussa Sarr, in order to explain their difficulties and obtain measures to improve their detention conditions, according to the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
