Douze cornets de chanvre indien découverts sur sa moto : Un jakartaman condamné à deux mois de prison ferme
N. Diop, a Jakarta motorcycle driver, appeared before the Thiès court of flagrant offenses to answer for the charges of offering or transferring Indian hemp.
The suspect was arrested in Tivaouane, in the Kognou Diaka neighborhood, in possession of 12 packets of marijuana, according to the investigation. Police, having received information about suspected drug trafficking at the Jakarta bus stop in the neighborhood, conducted an operation that led to his arrest.
In court, N. Diop denied the trafficking charges. He explained that the drugs were found on his motorcycle after he entrusted it to a friend, Moustapha, following the death of a relative.
According to him, after retrieving his vehicle, he was arrested with the marijuana hidden inside the motorcycle. He maintained that he does not use drugs, let alone sell them.
In his closing arguments, the public prosecutor stated that the defendant's responsibility was beyond doubt. "The motorcycle belongs to him and the cannabis was found on his motorcycle, so his ownership is not in question," he argued.
The prosecution requested that the charges be reclassified as possession of Indian hemp and sought a two-month prison sentence and a fine of 75,000 FCFA.
The court dismissed the charges of possession and use of Indian hemp. It found the defendant guilty on these counts and sentenced him to two months' imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs.
