The Thiès court heard a family dispute on Monday between Mr. Diop and his niece, K. Diagne. The defendant is being prosecuted for assault and battery resulting in a seven-day period of temporary incapacity for work. In court, the two parties presented diametrically opposed versions of events.

According to K. Diagne, the violence perpetrated by her uncle dates back to 2024 within the family home. She accuses Mr. Diop of regularly abusing her, insulting her, and trying to prevent her from conducting her business on the property. The young woman claims that her uncle even went so far as to violently strike her in the nose.

Believing that these repeated actions were aimed at forcing her out so that her uncle could seize the family home, she decided to take legal action for assault and battery. Before the court, she filed a civil suit and is claiming one million CFA francs in damages.

The uncle denies everything and cries foul, claiming manipulation.

In court, Mr. Diop categorically rejected all the accusations against him. According to his version of events, it was, on the contrary, his niece who continually sought to provoke him in order to push him to the edge and trigger a physical altercation. He maintains, however, that he never gave in to her provocations.

When questioned by the judge about the apparent injury observed on K. Diagne's nose, the uncle supported a theory of self-mutilation, claiming that she had injured herself to build a case against him.

In his submissions, the public prosecutor considered that the material facts of intentional assault and battery were indeed established against the defendant, leaving it to the wisdom of the court regarding the sentence.

The Thiès District Court has taken the case under advisement and will render its decision on October 26, 2026.
