Justice : la folle histoire qui oppose un professeur de l'UCAD à son ex-épouse
Eight years after they met at an examination center in Adéane, in the Ziguinchor region, where he was presiding over the Baccalaureate jury for which she was a candidate, the love story between MC Ngom, a professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), and his ex-wife YF Sané has turned into a legal battle. Accused by her of stealing gold jewelry valued at over one million CFA francs, as well as valuable fabrics, the professor appeared before the judge as a free man.
The Observer, which attended the trial, reports that the two former spouses, married from 2017 to 2025, objected to the hearing regarding the circumstances of their separation and the fate of personal belongings left at the marital home.
In November 2022, shortly after the birth of their second child, YF Sané left their home in Bandia to pursue a three-year vocational training program in Ziguinchor. In court, the teacher described his wife as "disobedient," claiming she had abandoned the family home without his consent. It was during this absence that MC Ngom remarried and moved his new wife into the former marital bedroom. Upon learning of this situation, YF Sané filed for divorce, which was finalized in November 2025.
When she returned to collect her belongings, the complainant claims to have discovered that her former bedroom was now occupied by her ex-husband's new wife, and that her jewelry and several valuable fabrics were missing. Believing her possessions were moved without her knowledge, she filed a theft report. She is demanding the return of her jewelry, which she claims was a gift from her mother, as well as 300,000 FCFA in compensation for the missing fabrics.
MC Ngom categorically denies the theft accusations. He claims he simply moved his ex-wife's personal belongings to preserve them, as the wardrobe where they were stored was, according to him, damaged.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law. L'Observateur reports that the court adjourned the case for deliberation until August 13th.
