Kaffrine: The judges of the Kaolack Court of Appeal are aiming for a justice system closer to the citizens

The Kaolack Court of Appeal's local committee, affiliated with the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS), relocated some of its activities to Kaffrine this year. The program included a courtesy visit to the governor, a donation to the prison, and a friendly match between members of the local justice system, all aimed at strengthening ties between the judicial institution and the community.

Bassirou Gaye, President of the Kaolack Court of Appeal's Jurisdiction Committee and President of the Nioro du Rip District Court, explained the significance of this initiative. "Today, we are in Kaffrine to carry out the committee's activities. We first paid a courtesy visit to the governor before proceeding with a symbolic handover of donations to the prison. Our goal is to bring justice closer to the citizens," he stated. The donation consists of cleaning products, hygiene products, and other items intended to contribute to improving the living conditions of the inmates.

“Many needs remain, particularly for fans, mattresses and other items. With the support of our partners, we hope to strengthen this wave of solidarity in order to further improve detention conditions,” said Bassirou Gaye.

He also announced that this initiative will be extended to the various jurisdictions within the district. "We want to continue these activities in Nioro, Kaffrine, Kaolack, Fatick, and other localities. Justice is everyone's business. Our ambition is to make it closer, more accessible, and better understood by citizens."

According to him, the choice of Kaffrine is a first. Usually organized at the headquarters of the Kaolack Court of Appeal, the committee's activities are being held this time in another locality in order to recognize the commitment and dynamism of the judicial staff of the region.

Judge Samba Sèye, President of the Kaffrine High Court, welcomed the organization of this edition in the region. "Today, we are hosting our colleagues from Kaolack, Fatick, and other jurisdictions within our district for a gala match. But beyond the sporting aspect, this day primarily aims to strengthen the bond between the justice system and the people," he emphasized.

He points out that the various activities carried out during this day, including the visit to the administrative authorities and the presentation of donations to the MAC, all serve the same purpose: to bring justice closer to those seeking justice.

Looking back on the exhibition match, Judge Sèye felt that this encounter illustrates the magistrates' desire to promote an open, accessible and citizen-friendly justice system.
