US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia spoke with the Malian Foreign Minister about the process of Mali's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

According to the US State Department, Washington welcomed the decision by Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger to leave the ICC, while maintaining that the institution applies "selective justice".

The United States also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing cooperation with the three countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (ASS), particularly in the areas of regional security and other issues of common interest. The three ASS states had officially notified their withdrawal from the Rome Statute in June 2026, a decision that will take effect one year after this notification.
