After 12 months and 20 days in detention, the former director general of the National Agency for the House of Tools (ANAMO), Maodo Malick Mbaye, is now free. While the financial prosecutor's office had made his release conditional on wearing an electronic bracelet, the investigating judge of the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF) ultimately granted the defense's request, releasing him provisionally without this measure, reports L'Observateur.
The same source believes that the real turning point in this legal battle hinges on a piece of evidence presented by the defense as key: "the clearance certificate issued by the Court of Auditors for the 2023 fiscal year," the period targeted by the investigation. Provided by the accounting officer, this document, which allegedly certifies that "no irregularities were committed," has, according to the lawyers, weakened the accusations against their client.
This element adds to the confrontation with the former CFO, during which the defense claims to have successfully "presented all the evidence that exonerates" the accused. These arguments were put forward to contest the embezzlement allegations, while Maodo Malick Mbaye has always maintained: "I have never embezzled a single franc."
