Mbour: Four friends who came to watch the Kankourang festival ended up spending the evening in prison before being released.

They had come to Mbour to attend the final festivities surrounding the Kankourang festival. But the four friends did not get to enjoy the Kankourang's last outing. They ended the celebration in prison for possession of 5 grams of crack cocaine and hashish. The difficulty in establishing their personal involvement in the drug possession was central to the court proceedings.

In court, YB explained that he had gone to Mbour to attend the Kankourang "leaf dance." He maintained that he knew nothing about the prohibited substances discovered by the officers. He explained that a girl present in the house had admitted to investigators that she owned the seized drugs. According to him, she had been arrested before being released after suffering fits during her detention.

MB stated that he was in the living room, watching television, while SSS and KS claimed to have been surprised in their sleep.

When questioned by the presiding judge about the reasons for their arrest, while other people were in the villa, the defendants said they did not understand why they had been targeted.

The prosecutor, after reminding them of the dangers associated with drug use, requested the application of the law. "You are not forbidden from going wherever you want, but please, do not do things prohibited by law," he told them, urging them to act responsibly.

For his part, lawyer Oumar Sène argued for acquittal based on reasonable doubt. He pointed out that more than thirty people were in the house at the time of the incident. While acknowledging that drugs had indeed been discovered in the villa, he maintained that attributing the blame to his clients was highly problematic, given the location's popularity with the public.

The court ultimately acquitted them due to reasonable doubt.
