Mort de Fallou Sène : la surprenante remarque de l’Agent judiciaire de l’État
Eight years after the death of student Fallou Sène at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, the trial of Warrant Officer Serigne Moustapha Sané, now promoted to captain, opened Friday before the Military Tribunal. According to L'Observateur, the proceedings focused on the use of an M16 assault rifle to disperse the crowd of students and the lack of internal disciplinary action against the soldier during his career.
In the civil case, the deceased's family has claimed 200 million CFA francs in damages, in addition to 50 million requested by the Saint-Louis Student Coordination. The State Legal Agent (AJE), however, considers the financial compensation sought by the family to be "excessive." This position is contested by lawyer Amadou Diallo, who believes that the student's life is priceless.
The prosecution has requested a one-year prison sentence, with six months to be served, for "voluntary assault and battery resulting in death without intent to kill," while the defense argues for acquittal, citing necessity. The military court adjourned the case for deliberation until November 27.
