Pape Malick Ndour à Rebeuss : les confidences de son entourage
The imprisonment of former Youth Minister Pape Malick Ndour, charged in the Prodac case for alleged embezzlement of two billion CFA francs and placed under arrest warrant since May 15, has returned to the forefront of the news in light of the new controversy surrounding the "hidden debt".
In Friday's edition of L'Observateur, his close associates paint a picture of a calm and combative man, whom they consider the victim of a "political conspiracy." His friend Amath Diouf asserts that the former minister "is doing very well" and that "he is at ease." "He is mentally strong. When you see him physically, you don't get the feeling he's in prison," he testifies, also highlighting the strong mobilization of his supporters, to the point that "on Tuesdays, we talk about 'Rebeuss Tuesdays'."
His sister, Khadidiatou Ndour, also emphasized his state of mind. "He is very serene, calm, and at peace," she stated, adding that her brother often says, "You can imprison a body, but not a peaceful mind." According to her, he is convinced of his innocence and "looks to the future with confidence, convinced that time is the best judge."
Despite his imprisonment, Pape Malick Ndour remains very attentive to the country's political and economic situation. According to Amath Diouf, he continues to discuss "the management of the coalition, economic issues, and the country's situation" with his visitors, these subjects remaining "his area of expertise."
His family and political associates also maintain that the arrest was politically motivated. "He's not capable of embezzling a single franc. It's purely political," argues Khadidiatou Ndour, who believes her brother is "paying the price for his political statements." Amath Diouf echoes this sentiment, stating that "it's a political arrest" and that "someone who has done nothing wrong should be released."
Hamidou Anne, coordinator of the Analysis and Foresight Unit (CAP) of the APR, also describes a calm and combative man who considers his imprisonment "an injustice inflicted by the current regime." While acknowledging the difficult conditions of detention at Rebeuss, where "this prison was built for 800 people, but there are 3,000," he emphasizes the resilience of the former minister.
Beyond political differences, Pape Malick Ndour's entourage and the APR are demanding his release and say they are relying on "a free and independent justice system," convinced that his innocence will eventually be established.
