The lawyers for Tabaski Ngom, Principal Treasury Inspector, have stepped forward to formally contest the information reported in an article published by Seneweb on September 4, 2026, according to which their client allegedly "beat up her pregnant cellmate".

In a statement, the lawyers "formally and categorically" refute this version of events as well as the characterization of their client as an aggressor.

According to the defense, Tabaski Ngom herself was subjected to provocations, verbal abuse, and physical violence during her detention, to which she claims she never responded. Her lawyers point out that she had, as early as August 4, 2026, reported in writing the actions she claimed to have suffered in her cell. They are therefore asking the Directorate of the Special Ward to clarify the follow-up to the complaint filed against a fellow inmate identified by the initials A. Diatta, whom Tabaski Ngom accuses of having physically assaulted her in front of witnesses.

The lawyers also raise a question regarding the cell's staffing management. They are surprised that a detainee, who had previously been removed from the cell, would have been reassigned if their client truly exhibited the aggressive behavior she is now accused of.

The defense also emphasized the nature of Tabaski Ngom's relationship with this young fellow inmate, stating that the Inspector shared her meals with her, provided assistance, and demonstrated "generosity and compassion." The lawyers argued that these factual elements demand clear explanations.

An investigation deemed incomplete and rights violated

Beyond the incident mentioned at the Special Pavilion, the lawyers addressed their client's overall legal situation. They reiterated that Tabaski Ngom has been in detention since January 2025 as part of a judicial investigation that remains ongoing. The defense also emphasized that their client was the first to file a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) against two of her co-defendants.

As part of the investigation, the lawyers indicate that they have repeatedly requested the execution of acts deemed essential to establishing the truth, including direct confrontations and the submission to the file of material evidence including audio recordings.

The lawyers further state that they have unsuccessfully requested that expert witnesses be ordered to verify the veracity of specific facts, including dates, times, and circumstances. The defense laments that these steps have still not been taken by the investigating magistrate.

An alarming state of health and an attack on dignity

Another critical point raised by the defense concerns the conditions of detention of the former senior official. While some of her co-defendants have been granted provisional release under judicial supervision, Tabaski Ngom remains incarcerated. According to her lawyers, her physical, psychological, and mental health has deteriorated considerably, justifying her transfer to the Special Ward. The defense is urgently requesting thorough medical and psychopsychiatric investigations, citing serious and persistent symptoms such as severe hypertension, insomnia, and heart palpitations.

Denouncing a serious attack on their client's honor and dignity through the dissemination of inaccurate facts, the lawyers emphasized Tabaski Ngom's exemplary career. A senior Treasury inspector, she dedicated nearly twenty years to serving the Senegalese state, holding high-ranking positions within the financial administration.

Through this reminder of the rules, the defense demands full transparency regarding the events that occurred at the Special Pavilion, as well as an acceleration of the investigation procedures which have so far remained unanswered.
