Brothel Network Dismantled in Rosso: Inn Owner Pocketed 16,000 FCFA Per Day Per Woman

On April 20, 2026, the National Division for the Fight Against Migrant Trafficking and Related Practices (DNLT), under the Border Police Directorate (DPAF), referred an individual to court in connection with an alleged case of human trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including human trafficking, procuring, incitement to debauchery, criminal conspiracy, and operating a lodging establishment without administrative authorization.

The case stems from an operation by the Rosso Special Police Station, which led to the arrest of several women of Senegalese and other nationalities at the "Le Walo" inn in Rosso-Senegal. According to initial findings, the women were engaged in prostitution on the premises.

During questioning, the women stated they voluntarily worked as prostitutes at the establishment but paid a daily fee of 16,000 FCFA to the owner. This amount covered accommodation and the right to receive clients on site.

However, one victim revealed a far more coercive exploitation system. She claimed she was recruited in Nigeria and then forced into prostitution under the pressure of a fictitious debt of three million FCFA, imposed by an accomplice of the suspect to cover travel expenses.

During his hearing, the inn owner admitted to collecting the stated sums but denied any coercion of the residents. He argued that the women stayed there of their own free will. Nevertheless, he acknowledged operating the establishment without a license from the Ministry of Tourism, a mandatory requirement for such activities, though he claimed to hold a license to sell alcoholic beverages.

After his detention, the suspect was brought before the public prosecutor. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the network and identify any accomplices.
