Revers judiciaire pour Crédit International SA : Christian Khalife et Mamadou Lamine Mbaye condamnés au paiement de 100 millions à Cheikh A. S. Aw
The Dakar High Court convicted Christian Khalife, CEO of Crédit International SA, and Mamadou Lamine Mbaye, an auditor and employee of the bank, of slander and perjury. In its judgment No. 621/2026, issued on October 14, the Third Criminal Chamber imposed a fine of 100,000 CFA francs on each of them.
But the heaviest sanction lies in the compensation for civil damages. Seized by Sheikh Abdou Salam Aw, represented by his lawyer Baboucar Cissé, the court awarded the plaintiff the sum of 100 million CFA francs in damages, for all causes and all harm combined.
The two defendants were jointly and severally ordered to pay this sum, with the benefit of provisional enforcement.
The court also declared Crédit International SA bank civilly liable for the actions of its two employees, finding that the alleged acts had been committed within the strict framework of their duties within the banking institution.
Furthermore, the judges ordered the publication of the decision, at the exclusive expense of the two convicted persons, in the daily newspapers Le Soleil , L'Observateur , Libération as well as on the Seneweb portal, for a period of one day.
Managing Director Christian Khalife did not appear at the hearing, while Mamadou Lamine Mbaye was present in court, assisted by his lawyer, Abdou Thiam. The court ultimately rejected the defense's request for a stay of proceedings.
