« Tu as mangé mon doigt » : Une plaisanterie qui vire aux coups, le prévenu risque six mois ferme
A dispute over debt and a "joking relationship" escalated in front of work colleagues. Charged with assault and battery against S. Diouf, O. Seck denies any violent intent.
But two witnesses confirmed the assault. The victim, who was given a 21-day sick leave, is claiming 200,000 CFA francs in damages. The two colleagues appeared before the judges of the Mbour High Court in a summary trial.
In court, the plaintiff explained that the defendant owed her money. According to her, O. Seck then accused her of causing the injury to his finger. "He came to me where I was sitting. He hit me, and I fell," she told the court. Medical examinations concluded that she was incapacitated for 21 days.
In court, O. Seck did not deny the exchanges, but attempted to downplay the events. He maintained that they had a relationship based on "joking kinship" and that his remarks, particularly when he told her "you ate my finger," were part of this tradition of teasing.
However, this version did not convince the two witnesses, colleagues of the protagonists, who claimed to have seen O. Seck assault S. Diouf.
The victim, having filed a civil suit, claimed 200,000 CFA francs in compensation for the harm suffered.
Considering the facts sufficiently established, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law and a sentence of six months imprisonment against the defendant.
The verdict will be delivered on July 14, 2026.
