Climat : Temps sec, forte chaleur et fin progressive de l’hivernage
The rainy season is gradually coming to an end in Senegal. According to the National Civil Aviation and Meteorology Agency (ANACIM), dry weather is expected to settle over most of the country, with temperatures potentially reaching 43°C inland. However, some isolated showers remain possible in certain areas of the south and north.
In its weather bulletin issued this Monday at 12:00 UTC and valid until Tuesday at the same time, ANACIM announces generally stable weather conditions across the entire national territory, marked by alternating cloudy periods and clearings.
"Stable weather, characterized by alternating cloud cover and sunny spells, will be observed across most of the country," the agency stated. Cloud cover is expected to persist over the central-western, southern, and coastal regions during the evening and overnight.
Intense heat expected in the interior of the country
Despite this stable weather pattern, the heat will remain particularly intense inland. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 36 and 43°C, according to ANACIM forecasts.
Dust in the atmosphere has also been reported. However, this is expected to gradually decrease, a trend that should continue across the country on Tuesday.
These conditions thus herald a period dominated by dry and hot weather, while rainfall activity experiences a gradual decline.
A decrease in rainfall is expected from the second half of October.
In its bulletin of October 19, ANACIM had already announced a significant decrease in rainfall during the second half of October. Between October 23 and 31, the rains are expected to gradually decrease in intensity and frequency. From October 25 onward, dry weather should prevail across most of the country, although some isolated showers may still occur in the south.
This development confirms the gradual transition to the dry season, without totally excluding localized rainy episodes.
In light of these changing weather conditions, ANACIM is urging farmers to take the necessary steps to protect their crops. The agency specifically recommends sheltering crops that have already dried out, as well as cut fodder. It also advises against storing agricultural products that are still damp, in order to limit the risk of mold and post-harvest losses.
These precautions are essential in this transition phase, where the gradual establishment of dry weather offers favorable conditions for drying, but requires good crop management.
Despite the gradual end of the rainy season, ANACIM reminds the public that isolated or unseasonal rainfall cannot be ruled out. Some areas could still experience precipitation, particularly along the Podor-Louga axis, as well as in the Linguère and Ranérou sectors.
The end of the rainy season should therefore be understood as a general decrease in rainfall activity rather than as a definitive cessation of rain across the entire territory.
While waiting for the dry season to become firmly established, people, especially those in rural areas, are encouraged to pay close attention to weather reports in order to adapt their activities to the predicted conditions.
