Grand Magal of Touba: The weather forecast for the coming days revealed

As the Grand Magal of Touba approaches, the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) is urging vigilance. In its special weather bulletin, the agency forecasts a period marked by heavy rain and thunderstorms across much of the country, particularly in Touba and several other regions.

According to forecasts, thunderstorms and rain are expected from the night of July 31st to August 2nd, 2026 in several localities. The phenomenon is expected to particularly affect the South (Ziguinchor, Kolda and Sédhiou), the East (Kédougou, Tambacounda and Matam), the Center (Dakar, Thiès, Diourbel, Kaolack, Fatick and Kaffrine) as well as the North (Linguère, Louga, Podor and Saint-Louis).

Rain expected in Touba

In the holy city, July 31st is expected to remain generally stable. However, thunderstorms and light rain are possible during the night of July 31st to August 1st and during the morning of August 1st. A deterioration in the weather is then expected between the afternoon of August 1st and the 2nd, with thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain in Touba, Mbacké, Diourbel, and the surrounding areas.

The situation should gradually improve on August 3, although cloudy skies could still cause light precipitation in some areas.

Pilgrims urged to be cautious

In light of these forecasts, ANACIM recommends that road users exercise extra caution during rain and thunderstorm episodes, particularly due to low visibility and the risk of heavy rain on the roads leading to Touba.

Pilgrims are also advised to regularly check weather forecasts to better plan their travels. Meanwhile, people living in at-risk areas are urged to remain vigilant regarding the risk of flooding.

The agency also advises farmers to take weather conditions into account in their activities and fishermen to consult the forecast before any trip to sea.
