JOJ Dakar 2026 : comment la chanson « Téranga » de Mamy Mbaye a conquis le jury
Selected from around fifty proposals by a prestigious jury, including Baaba Maal, Omar Pène, Coumba Gawlo Seck and Kiné Lam, the song "Téranga" by Mamy Mbaye was chosen as the official anthem of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
In an interview with L'Observateur, the former member of the rap group Alif confided that she felt "immense joy, mixed with great pride" upon learning the news. The artist explained that the song came about spontaneously: informed by a friend on the last day of the call for submissions, she went to the studio with musician Moussa Gongal and composed the song in just five hours. According to her, "Téranga" was selected thanks to its universal message of "welcome, sharing, and encounter," perfectly aligned with the spirit of the Youth Olympic Games.
Mamy Mbaye affirms that she fully understands the significance of this mission, feeling both "immense responsibility" and "great pride" at representing Senegal during this historic event. Through this role, she hopes to convey values of fraternity, respect, fair play, and solidarity to young people worldwide, while also extending a warm welcome to Senegal.
