Weather: Unsettled and rainy weather expected across much of the country

The National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) has issued its short-term weather bulletin, valid from Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 12:00 PM to Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 12:00 PM. The forecast indicates a general situation characterized by instability on the coast and rainy events spread over several regions of the country.

Starting this afternoon, showers are expected all along the coastal strip stretching from Saint-Louis to Ziguinchor, including the towns of Dakar, Louga, Thiès, Diourbel, Fatick, and Kaolack. Further rainfall is also forecast for the regions of Sédhiou, Kolda, Kédougou, Tambacounda, and Kaffrine.

On the other hand, the north and east of the country will experience more favorable conditions, particularly in Matam, Bakel and Podor, where the chances of rain remain low despite sometimes cloudy skies.

In terms of temperatures, relatively high levels of heat will persist across the entire country, exacerbated by cloud cover and localized rainfall. Minimum and maximum temperatures will vary depending on the area, ranging, for example, between 24°C and 30°C in Thiès, 24°C and 33°C in Mbour, Diourbel, Louga, Fatick, and Kaolack, and reaching up to 37°C in Podor and 36°C in Matam and Bakel.

Conditions for travel and navigation are expected to be favorable, with good visibility reported across the country. Winds will be variable and of light to moderate intensity.

Finally, in Dakar, sunrise for October 7th is scheduled for 7:00 AM and sunset for 6:54 PM. High tides in Dakar will occur on October 6th at 5:21 AM (1.67 m) and 6:14 PM (1.53 m), and again on October 7th at 6:24 AM (1.77 m) and 7:04 PM (1.64 m). Low tides will occur on October 6th at 12:00 PM (0.81 m) and 11:56 PM (0.85 m), and again on October 7th at 12:52 PM (0.72 m).
