Dolly Parton, légende américaine de la musique country, meurt à 80 ans
"My family and I shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so did you. She was always on your television, your record player, your CDs or in your phone's playlist, becoming a full-fledged member of your family," her nephew said in a video announcing her death, posted on the star's X account.
The singer's family did not specify the cause of her death.
Donald Trump lamented a "real loss for millions of people" and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for a week across the country.
"There has never been anyone like her, and there never will be again," the US president also wrote on his Truth Social platform.
We knew the country music icon had been ill for some time. In May, she cancelled a series of concerts scheduled in Las Vegas, as she had done a few months earlier, last October.
In a video posted on Instagram in the spring, Dolly Parton explained that her recovery was progressing well, but that she wasn't yet ready to return to the stage. She mentioned that her immune and digestive systems had been "put to the test".
The author and performer, who had also become an actress, businesswoman and philanthropist, still hoped to inaugurate a museum and a hotel at the end of the year in Nashville, the birthplace of country music in Tennessee.
Her husband, Carl Dean, whom she met when she was 18, died last year.
Dolly Parton penned some 3,000 songs, including classics like "Jolene" (1973) and "I Will Always Love You" (1974), whose cover by Whitney Houston was a worldwide hit.
Over her 60-year career, the "Queen of Country" has released nearly fifty albums, sold over 100 million records, and built one of the biggest fortunes in the American music scene.
Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in a cabin in Sevier County in the backwoods of Tennessee, the fourth of twelve poor children.
As a child, she first sang to the chickens outside the family shack in the Appalachian mountains and then, from the age of 13, on the legendary stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, whose country radio show was broadcast throughout America.
As soon as she got her high school diploma, she moved to Nashville and quickly became - and remained for a long time - one of the most popular figures on the American music scene.
An excellent guitarist, she won over critics thanks to her soprano range, whose vibrato sometimes fades into a wounded whisper.
An accomplished entrepreneur, Dolly Parton also launched a publishing house, a radio station, restaurants, and even a perfume, "Dolly", at the age of 75.
Her immense popularity is perhaps best measured by "Dollywood," the amusement park bearing her name that she opened in 1986 in Tennessee, near where she grew up. It attracts several million visitors a year.

My momma sewed the rags with love
The patches, purple, blue and green
And red and yellow, pink and black
She sewed my coat of many colors
And I wore it to the first day of school
And I knew I was as rich as any other
Cause my momma made it for me.
I will always love you,
Nine to five,
Gare you come again
Island in the stream (avec Kenny Rodger),
You can’t make old friends,
Once upon a christmas,
RIP
