Le DJ français Kavinsky retrouvé mort à son domicile à Paris (parquet)
DJ Kavinsky, one of the leading figures of the French electro scene, was found dead at his home in Paris, the prosecutor's office told AFP on Wednesday, confirming a report in the daily newspaper Le Parisien.
The prosecutor's office stated that "an investigation into the causes of death" had been opened, "in order to determine the origin of the death, as no suspicious elements were discovered on site by the first responders," Tuesday evening.
Kavinsky, whose real name is Vincent Belorgey, would have celebrated his 51st birthday on July 31st.
This iconic French Touch artist was particularly famous for his song "Nightcall", which was covered with the pop-rock group Phoenix and the Belgian star Angèle during the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
Paris Olympics in 2024.
"With the sudden passing of Kavinsky, France loses one of its most unique voices. From the film +Drive+ to the Paris Olympics, the whole world had vibrated to +Nightcall+. Both danceable and nostalgic, his music will continue to cross generations and borders," reacted the Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard, on X.
A self-taught pianist born in Seine-Saint-Denis, in the Paris region, Kavinsky launched his career in the early 2000s, notably opening for Daft Punk and performing alongside other new names on the electro scene, such as SebastiAn.
But the major turning point in his career remains "Nightcall", this synthwave hit with a darkened atmosphere and slowed tempo, which was part of the soundtrack of "Drive", Nicolas Winding Refn's successful thriller, starring Ryan Gosling.
