Nécrologie : Décès d'El Hadji Mamour Ndiogou Ba, Khalife de Maba Diakhou Ba
The Nioro du Rip department and the religious community of Senegal are in mourning. The Khalif of the Ba family of Nioro du Rip, El Hadji Mamour Ndiogou Ba, passed away early this morning in Dakar, following a long illness.
Born in 1930 in Nioro du Rip, the deceased guided the community as the grandson of Almamy Tafsir Maba Diakhou Ba (1809-1867), an emblematic figure of Islam and resistance in the Rip region. He was the son of Ndiogou Cira Marame Ba, himself the younger son of the Senegambian marabout and resistance fighter.
The announcement of his passing plunges Nioro du Rip into grief, a mourning shared with the royal family of Sine. Indeed, the wife of the late Khalif, Ndèye Fatou Diouf, is a direct descendant of the royal family of Diakhao Sine, illustrating the historical and centuries-old ties between these two territories.
A prominent figure in the educational world before his accession to the caliphate, El Hadji Mamour Ndiogou Ba served extensively in public education, notably as a general supervisor at the Blaise Diagne high school in Dakar.
He had succeeded his elder brother, El Hadji Babacar Ndiogou Ba, who passed away in February 2024, as head of the caliphate.
