Rugby : un joueur Fidjien meurt après un coup de chaleur au Japon
Japanese rugby is in mourning. Fijian lock Saimoni Vunilagi, 26, died on Friday after suffering severe heatstroke during a Kyushu Kyuden Voltex training session in Fukuoka.
Taken to hospital on Monday after the training session, the player unfortunately did not survive despite the care he received. Japan was experiencing high temperatures at the time, exceeding 35°C.
"The players, staff and all members of the team are devastated by this sudden news," the club reacted, offering its condolences to the player's family.
Having joined Kyushu Kyuden Voltex in June, Vunilagi began his professional career in 2023 with Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath. He had just embarked on a new chapter in his career with the Fukuoka-based club.
