People : Drake remporte un pari d’un million de dollars sur la Coupe du monde
Canadian rapper Drake pocketed more than $1 million after Canada beat South Africa in the FIFA World Cup round of 32, ending Bafana Bafana's historic run and adding another chapter to the musician's list of high-stakes sports bets, four years after losing an £837,000 bet on Argentina in the 2022 final.
The Toronto-born rapper bet $770,000 on Canada to beat South Africa, a bet that could pay out up to $1,001,000 and earned him a profit of approximately $231,000 after Canada's victory.
Drake revealed the existence of this bet on Instagram before the game, explaining that it followed a private exchange with South African DJ Black Coffee.
"@realblackcoffee was sending me private messages telling me I had to raise the bid," he wrote, sharing a screenshot of the bet.
This article added a celebrity dimension to one of the most important matches in South African football history, as Bafana Bafana sought to extend their best-ever FIFA World Cup run.
In 2022, Drake bet £837,000 on Argentina beating France in the World Cup final, a bet that would have earned him over £2.26 million if Argentina had won in regulation time.
The gamble failed after Kylian Mbappé's late equaliser forced extra time, before Argentina won the final on penalties.
Drake has also made several public bets via Stake, the crypto casino platform he has been associated with since 2021 under the name DeepPockets6.
