Accord avec le FMI : L’APR fixe ses exigences au gouvernement
The Alliance for the Republic (APR) issued a statement on Thursday, September 3, 2026, regarding the agreement reached between Senegal and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The APR's National Executive Secretariat (SEN) acknowledged the agreement while demanding greater transparency from the government in its debt management practices.
In a statement, the SEN (National Union of Senegalese) calls on the government to "be transparent about Senegal's Debt Treatment Plan (PTDS)" and to "suspend any austerity measures affecting populations already severely impacted by more than two years of scandalous mismanagement." The party specifically cites the Economic and Social Recovery Plan (PRES), which it considers to have "unanimously failed."
On the issue of public debt, the party of former president Macky Sall maintains its objections. It asserts that the return of the IMF, following the debate surrounding the "hidden debt," "demonstrates that it (the hidden debt) was merely a political construct rather than an economic reality." In this context, the APR "once again contests the cited figure of a debt of 132% of GDP" and reiterates its demand for the publication of "the IGF report, the provisional report of the Court of Auditors, and the Mazars report."
Furthermore, the APR calls on the Senegalese government to revive the economy through the launch of major infrastructure projects. The SEN thus urges the government to "inject new momentum into economic recovery," particularly through the launch of "major road, energy, university, hospital, and other infrastructure projects."
The party intends to combine this economic recovery with "the implementation of an ambitious and effective social policy." Its stated objective is to "restore Senegal's credibility and pursue the strategy towards definitive emergence."
For the former ruling party, the agreement with the IMF must now lead to concrete actions in favor of the economy and the people. The APR thus says it hopes that the new program with the IMF will make it possible to "restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability, reduce fiscal vulnerabilities, increase social spending, and support sustainable growth led by the private sector."
Referring to the security grants, the APR (Alliance for the Republic) is calling on the public to remain vigilant against what it describes as an "ongoing deception," despite the reinstatement of the grants. "The grants cannot be an alternative to eliminating subsidies, particularly for energy," the party warns. According to the SEN (National Education Service), they must not become "a mechanism by which the government takes back with one hand what it gives with the other."
