The general discussion on the report of the parliamentary fact-finding mission relating to the marketing of Softcare brand products in Senegal was closed this Friday in the Chamber by the president of the institution, El Malick Ndiaye.

At the end of the discussions, the National Assembly took note of the mission's conclusions, heard the various opinions expressed during the debates, and gathered insights from members of the government on issues relevant to their respective departments.

El Malick Ndiaye commended the work accomplished by the mission's chairperson and members. "I congratulate the mission on the quality of its impartial investigations and its contribution to the parliamentary institution's oversight role. I also commend the availability and cooperation of the relevant government members and their departments, who contributed to the mission's work," he stated.

Recommendations submitted to the government

El Malick Ndiaye announced that the recommendations made at the end of the work will be formally transmitted to the government so that appropriate follow-up can be given.

The National Assembly, for its part, intends to monitor their implementation within the framework of its constitutional prerogatives of control.

"For its part, the national representation will ensure, within the framework of its constitutional prerogatives of control, that regular monitoring of their implementation and assessment of the measures actually taken by the administrations and bodies concerned," he said.

For him, the presentation of the report therefore does not constitute the end of parliamentary work on this matter.

"The work of the National Assembly therefore does not end with the presentation of this report," he clarified.

Follow-up will continue through parliamentary oversight to ensure that the lessons learned from the Softcare case are translated into "concrete measures, appropriate remedies" and, where necessary, "lasting reforms".
