After outlining the government's general policy, Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo stated what the State expects from the Senegalese people. He began by saying: "A government cannot rebuild a country on its own. It is the people who do so, with their government. Our elders express it better than I: 'Nit, nitay garabam,' and others say 'Nit, nité moy garabam' (Man is the remedy for man, or man must use his human conscience). I therefore want to state, respectfully, what the State expects from each and every one of us. Not as a lesson, but as the second signing of a contract."
First, he spoke of clear-sightedness, meaning accepting the truth of the figures and the long timeframe of recovery. What has been damaged over years cannot be repaired in a few months. Then, pragmatism, which consists of sticking to the facts and prioritizing results over disputes. The public dashboard will give every citizen, every journalist, every elected official the means to make this judgment.
Finally, commitment, "for our wisdom has never separated faith from effort." "Tie your mount firmly, then entrust it to God so that it does not escape." This commitment is manifested first and foremost through civic responsibility regarding taxes, because every tax evaded means a well that will not be drilled, a classroom that will not be built; paying taxes is, beyond a civic duty, an act of sovereignty. Next, buying local, which is the everyday industrial policy, within reach of every household. Finally, volunteering and service to the nation, the value of which I learned under the flags of the Military Academy, and for which the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be, starting next month, the first major mobilization." He adds to this the contribution of our diaspora, "which we want to be investors, builders, and ambassadors."
In response, he maintains, the State will do its part. “It will provide transparency, which is the price of trust. It will ensure that the effort required is fair and that it begins at the top, with the State's spending and the conduct of those who govern. It will protect the most vulnerable, in all circumstances. I am not asking the Senegalese people to take the Government at its word. I am asking them to judge it based on the evidence, and I pledge to provide it to them,” concluded Al Aminou Lo.
