Altercation au ministère de la Famille : Mamadou Diop écroué après la plainte de Mame Diarra Fam
The handover ceremony at the Ministry of Family, Social Action, and Solidarity ended up in court. Former MP Mame Diarra Fam had businessman Mamadou Diop arrested on charges of violence.
The investigation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), sheds light on the circumstances of an altercation that occurred on June 8 at the Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity, during the handover ceremony between Maïmouna Dièye and Marie Angélique Diouf.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Mamadou Diop was taken to the prosecutor's office of the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court for public insults, death threats and intentional assault and battery resulting in a total incapacity for work (ITT) of 15 days.
According to Seneweb, it all started with a complaint filed on June 9, 2026, by Mame Diarra Fam, a former member of parliament. She claims she was violently attacked upon her arrival at the ministry.
According to her version, a man stood in front of her, filmed her with his mobile phone while showering her with insults and death threats, accusing her of social media posts targeting Adama Sarr, mayor of Keur Massar Nord.
The complainant maintains that her attacker then proceeded to physically assault her. She asserts that she owes her life to the intervention of people present at the scene, notably Demba Dang.
Suffering from pain in her left shoulder and wrist, she went to the Baye Talla Diop Hospital in Pikine before being transferred to the Thiaroye Military Hospital. Radiological examinations confirmed a trauma to her left shoulder and wrist, and a medical certificate granted her a 15-day period of incapacity for work.
The accused denies everything.
Summoned by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), Mamadou Diop denied all the accusations. This businessman, who also works for the COUD security team, admitted to attending the ceremony at the invitation of the new minister, Marie Angélique Diouf, with whom he says he collaborates on humanitarian activities. He acknowledged seeing Mame Diarra Fam at the ministry, but categorically denied filming, insulting, threatening, or hitting her. He repeatedly maintained that the complainant mistook him for someone else.
Called as a witness, Demba Dang, a security guard for COUD and coordinator of the "Karimists," stated that he greeted Mame Diarra Fam upon her arrival. Initially, he declared that he had not observed any physical contact between her and Mamadou Diop. He explained, however, that the complainant subsequently identified her friend Mamadou Diop as her assailant and that he had considered mediation at the request of political leaders from the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS).
Investigators also note this contradiction: the witness, on the one hand, claimed not to have seen any aggression and, on the other hand, took steps to conciliate between the protagonists.
CCTV footage incriminates the suspect
Ultimately, it was the analysis of the ministry's CCTV footage that turned the investigation around. Acting on a request from the DIC (Criminal Investigation Division), the ministry's IT unit provided investigators with an excerpt of the recordings covering the period in question.
According to the summary report, the videos show Mamadou Diop following Mame Diarra Fam from the moment she entered the premises, filming her against her will, and then assaulting her by slamming her left hand against a door. When confronted with this footage during a subsequent hearing, the accused maintained his denial.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Mr. Diop, who was not taken into custody, was brought before the prosecutor's office in Pikine-Guédiawaye. He was remanded in custody and will be tried immediately.
