Après la rupture Sonko-Diomaye : L'opposition face à la nouvelle redistribution des cartes politiques
The political break between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko represents a major turning point in Senegalese political life. Beyond its consequences at the highest levels of government, this separation is seen by part of the opposition as the culmination of a political struggle waged for several months.
Indeed, several opposition leaders argued that the coexistence of the two men at the head of the executive branch fostered confusion in the exercise of power. According to them, Senegal could not function sustainably with two such influential political figures, sharing responsibilities while displaying increasingly visible differences.
For these political actors, the official break confirms the warnings they had been issuing for a long time. They believe that the tensions observed in recent months made the separation between the two former allies inevitable. The creation of a new political party by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as the gradual realignment of political forces, reinforces this interpretation.
However, while the opposition can claim a symbolic victory, the new political landscape remains uncertain. The end of the Sonko-Diomaye partnership opens a new phase marked by a repositioning of alliances, a redistribution of power, and the prospect of new electoral battles.
This realignment could permanently redefine the Senegalese political game, with supporters of President Diomaye Faye on one side and those of Ousmane Sonko on the other, while the traditional opposition will try to take advantage of this new configuration.
