Babacar Fall, coordinator of Gradec: "This petty squabble risks hindering the country's development."

Babacar Fall, coordonnateur du Gradec : « Cette guéguerre risque de plomber le développement du pays »

Invited to the program "Point de vue" on RTS, the coordinator of Gradec, Babacar Fall, spoke about the persistent tensions at the top of the State, the delays in the implementation of reforms and several issues related to transparency and the management of public funds.

While the camps close to the President of the Republic and the President of the National Assembly accuse each other, Babacar Fall calls for moving beyond partisan interpretations. For him, the current situation primarily reflects a political divergence between two men who have long championed the same agenda.

"These are two people who were together, who separated. They have different visions and each is trying to forge their own path," he analyzes.

"We could reach a deadlock."

The coordinator of Gradec, however, expressed concern about the consequences of this confrontation on the country's progress. While he believes that institutions are not yet paralyzed, he fears that a prolonged crisis will ultimately further slow down public action.

"If things continue as they are, we could indeed end up in a deadlock situation and a delay in the implementation of reforms," he warns.

For Babacar Fall, the main problem lies in the delays in implementing the commitments announced by the new authorities. He recalls the various national dialogues organized since the new regime came to power, particularly on justice and the political system. In his view, several consensus points reached during these consultations have yet to be translated into action. "All the conclusions, all the consensus reached within the framework of these dialogues have not yet been implemented. That, frankly, is a problem," he laments.

Transparency: "No one should be protected"

On issues of good governance and accountability, Babacar Fall believes that the principles advocated by the new authorities must apply to everyone, without political distinction.

"What we want is for us to be able to go all the way. For no one to be protected," insists the head of Gradec.

He specifically cites the Cosmos Energy and Azur cases, which raise numerous questions. He calls on regulatory bodies and relevant institutions to conduct thorough investigations to shed full light on these matters.

Regarding Cosmos Energy, he addressed the controversy surrounding the $55 million, or nearly 30 billion CFA francs, presented as a loss of revenue for the state. Faced with the various versions put forward, he believes that only a thorough investigation will establish the truth and determine any potential liability.

"Regardless of which side you are on, there is a duty to the truth," he reminds us.

"The people are suffering from all of this."

Beyond the political clashes, Babacar Fall is most concerned that the concerns of the Senegalese people will be relegated to the background.

Economic and financial situation, debt, agriculture, youth unemployment: these are all challenges which, according to him, require urgent attention from public authorities.

"It feels like we're playing a game of ping-pong. Each side thinks it's right. But ultimately, the result is that we're not making any progress. And unfortunately, it's the people who are suffering from all of this today," he laments.

For the coordinator of Gradec, the urgent need is therefore to move beyond political confrontation and return to the effective implementation of the reforms promised to the Senegalese people.

"The truth must come out about all these cases. That's the most important thing," concluded Babacar Fall.
