« Ce que nous voulons… » : Les États-Unis se prononcent sur le traitement de la dette sénégalaise
Senegal has launched the process of addressing its public debt. The government, which has already held an initial meeting with its creditors, intends to leverage the improved version of the G20 Common Framework to accelerate the process. The United States has also recently commented on the process.
Washington views Senegal's debt restructuring request as an "excellent example" of progress made within the G20 framework. The United States hopes the process will be completed in less than a year, said Erin Browne, U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs.
On Wednesday, she co-chaired a meeting of the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable, which also brings together creditors, borrowing countries, and private sector actors. This group was established to accelerate debt relief within the common framework of the G20, following the lengthy proceedings initiated in Zambia and Ghana.
Erin Browne presents Senegal as "an excellent example of progress in a sovereign debt restructuring under the Common European Framework." According to the American official, the process must move quickly: "We want this process to be carried out quickly, transparently, and as soon as possible."
She noted that some roundtable participants mentioned a timeframe of less than a year to complete the process. "I think that's a goal we should all aim for," she stated.
