Mamadou Kassé justifies his departure from the Alliance for the Republic (APR) by citing matters of conviction and political freedom. Mamadou Kassé has accepted his departure from the Alliance for the Republic (APR), without disavowing his political past or the relationship he maintained with Macky Sall. A guest on the Sunday Jury program, the urban planner explained the principles that guided his decision, emphasizing loyalty, clear-sightedness, and freedom of choice: "I consider myself loyal. I consider myself clear-sighted, and I also consider myself a free man who knows how to make choices," he declared.
For him, political commitment cannot be reduced to personal loyalty to a leader. It rests above all on convictions and the ability to take responsibility for one's decisions, even when they lead to leaving an organization to which one has long belonged: "I cannot remain in an organization where I do not share the views and where I stay simply to demonstrate loyalty to one man. For me, these are not convictions," he explained.
“Having the courage of one’s convictions”
Mamadou Kassé presents his departure from the APR as the result of a rigorous analysis of the situation and political circumstances. He states that he felt the best decision was to leave the party, while retaining the lessons learned from his experience within the organization. He cites, in particular, freedom of association—the freedom to join a political organization as well as the freedom to leave it—but also the responsibility that accompanies any decision: “The freedom to make choices, but above all, in the end, the responsibility to stand by them. And that is my case,” he insisted.
The former political figure clarifies that his decision does not mean he rejects his entire career within the APR party. On the contrary, he says he wants to preserve what he learned from the individuals who contributed to his political development. While he accepts his departure, Mamadou Kassé remains silent on the precise reasons that led him to distance himself from his former party. He believes that certain elements must remain confidential, particularly when they are likely to harm an organization or the individuals involved: "The reasons, the details, those are secrets I can take to my grave," he stated, implying that he intends to keep certain information confidential despite his departure.
Macky Sall, a mentor whom he continues to acknowledge
Despite this break with the APR, Mamadou Kassé does not question Macky Sall's place in his career. He acknowledges that the former president of the Republic largely contributed to his training and his approach to political action: "Certainly, I must draw it from my mentor, President Macky Sall, one of my mentors, because he remained a mentor for many years, someone who greatly inspired me in what I was doing," he declared.
Mamadou Kassé thus emphasizes the clear distinction he draws between gratitude towards a figure who has supported him and permanent adherence to a political organization. In his view, the bonds built over the years should not prevent an official from distancing himself when his convictions no longer align with the party's direction. His testimony therefore outlines a separation he intends to embrace without disavowal, asserting his freedom of choice while maintaining his gratitude towards Macky Sall and preserving aspects of his career that he deems necessary to keep confidential.
