CEDEAO : Guy Marius Sagna dénonce ‘’une incohérence de discours et actes’’ du président Diomaye
MP Guy Marius Sagna questions the new acting president of ECOWAS, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on the "contradiction" between his pan-African speech and a recent decision by his government.
In a message posted on his social media platforms, the parliamentarian recalled that on July 19, 2026, Bassirou Diomaye Faye affirmed his ambition for the region by declaring: "Long live ECOWAS. Long live a reconciled and united West Africa."
A statement which, according to the MP, differs from a decision taken a few days earlier where the government banned a conference of African nationals from Guinea in Dakar.
According to Guy Marius Sagna, "these Guineans wanted to raise awareness about the ongoing epidemic of enforced and targeted disappearances in Guinea. At least 35 Africans from Guinea, including four children under 16, a woman and a 76-year-old man."
He claimed that the Senegalese authorities justified the ban on the conference by citing a desire to avoid any misunderstandings. "We don't want any misunderstandings between Dakar and Conakry."
According to the MP, this position illustrates the limitations of the regional organization. "This is the preferred formula of ECOWAS heads of state," he declared.
He then asked what the people could expect from this rotating presidency: "What can the nationals of West African countries hope for from Diomaye at the head of ECOWAS for the next 12 months? Is this what 'a reconciled and united West Africa' means?" he asked.
Guy Marius Sagna concluded by expressing his support for the victims and making a demand. The parliamentarian also voiced his solidarity with Guinean nationals. "Shame on the Senegalese government! Support for the Africans in Guinea who are victims of enforced and targeted disappearances! Stop the enforced and targeted disappearances in Guinea!" he declared emphatically.
He finally pleaded for a different West Africa: sovereign, democratic, just, and prosperous. "A different West Africa is necessary and possible. A sovereign, democratic, just, and prosperous West Africa," he concluded.
