Cheikh Issa Sall : « On ne fait pas de la politique pour bloquer un pays »
The mayor of Mbour, Cheikh Issa Sall, denounces attempts to obstruct the 2026 supplementary budget law and calls on members of parliament, particularly those from his department, to take action. He warns of the consequences of rejecting the bill, which could jeopardize major projects for Mbour.
Indeed, Cheikh Issa Sall does not hide his concern about the political tensions surrounding the 2026 Finance Law. For the mayor of Mbour, the attempts to block it observed in the National Assembly risk compromising major projects for the development of the department.
"They block and they block. They try to block everything. Everything that contributes to the development of Senegal, people have united, gathered, organized to block," he denounces.
Beyond the political controversy, the mayor emphasizes the concrete implications of this budget for the people of Mbour. Three projects have drawn his attention: the construction of a fire station, the renovation and expansion of the Demba Diop high school, and the building of a level 3 hospital.
Infrastructure that the population is waiting for and whose realization could be compromised if the Finance Law is not adopted.
"We hope that our MPs, especially the MPs from the Mbour department, will be responsible enough not to follow their leader in these attempts to block," he said, calling on parliamentarians to prioritize the interests of the people.
"We don't go into politics to bring a country to a standstill."
Sheikh Issa Sall believes that political confrontation should not take precedence over the imperatives of development. "I believe that we do not do politics to try to paralyze a country. We do politics to try to better manage the affairs of the nation, to contribute to everything that can allow us to reach acceptable levels of development and improve the living conditions of our people," he insists.
The mayor of Mbour also deplores what he sees as a desire, on the part of certain opposition figures, to destabilize the country. He deems any action likely to jeopardize the restoration of confidence among technical and financial partners "unacceptable."
For him, while Senegal seems to be reconnecting with its partners and regaining a favorable dynamic, parliamentary blockages risk hindering this momentum.
Faced with this situation, the mayor stated that he had incorporated prayers into his political appeal. Following a reading from the Holy Quran, prayers were offered for the country's stability and its continued progress towards development and sovereignty.
"We, at the departmental level of Mbour, will be the biggest losers if this law is not passed," he warned, recalling that behind the political standoff are essential projects for the future of the department.
This was during the launch of the roadworks, with a total budget of 2 billion CFA francs. The works concern three strategic road axes in the municipality of Mbour: Sana Daffé, the road to the Ngelaw market crossing Santessou to the Pa Cissé roundabout and the Oncad road leading to the Poulailler roundabout.
