Pastef – The Patriots is holding a press conference this Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM in Keur Maodo. The meeting comes after a new development in the special funds case. The plenary session scheduled for this morning to examine the proposed law on the control of special funds was suspended after the government appealed to the Constitutional Council.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Prime Minister's office indicated that it had appealed to the High Court, pursuant to Article 83 of the Constitution, to have the text declared inadmissible. It maintains that certain provisions fall under the regulatory, not legislative, domain.
In response, the National Assembly chose to temporarily postpone the vote, denouncing "systematic obstruction" while invoking "republican stability and decorum." The Constitutional Council now has eight days to decide.
The dispute revives a sensitive debate for Pastef, whose control of special funds was among its campaign promises.
