Dette de 120 milliards F Cfa : El Malick Ndiaye alerte sur « les pots cassés » que paieront les Sénégalais
During a Pastef press conference, El Malick Ndiaye denounced the recourse to a 120 billion CFA franc loan from the World Bank, included in the amended budget law, to finance, among other things, energy subsidies and family allowances. The former president of the National Assembly questioned the cost of this debt for future generations, given that the mobilized resources are expected to be spent before the end of 2026.
“Who will pay this debt of 120 billion CFA francs?” the MP asked, before answering that the Senegalese people will bear the burden for thirty years, even though the borrowed money will already have been spent. He thus denounced what he considered to be government “manipulations.”
For El Malick Ndiaye, the announced increase in social welfare grants, from 35 to 70 billion CFA francs in 2026, then to 140 billion in 2027, is more of a public relations exercise than a genuine social policy. According to him, these announcements aim to project the image of a government attentive to the suffering of the people, while in reality, they will ultimately have to bear the burden of debt.
The Pastef MP also fears that this situation will jeopardize any prospect of price decreases in 2027. This is yet another worry for Senegalese households, already struggling with soaring prices for basic necessities. In his view, behind the social announcements lies the risk of making the population bear the long-term cost of short-term expenditures.
