Diomaye Faye sonne la rupture : « Le temps sépare ceux qui construisent de ceux qui promettent »
In officially launching the presidential majority party, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye delivered a highly symbolic speech, placing change, responsibility, and the strengthening of institutions at the heart of his political project. Addressing coalition leaders, elected officials, and party members, the head of state presented this new party as "a common home" intended to unite the forces committed to the transformation of Senegal.
“Titles will come later, as will positions. But today, we are building a common home,” he declared. To illustrate his vision of politics, Bassirou Diomaye Faye recounted his childhood in a farming family. He told the story of the “Diombo,” a plant that resembles millet while growing but produces no grain at harvest time.
Through this metaphor, the president delivered a clear message: “Time is the most honest of judges. In the end, it separates what nourishes from what occupies, what builds from what promises, and what serves from what fails.” This statement reaffirms his commitment to prioritizing concrete results over political rhetoric. The president explained that the creation of this party marks the beginning of a new phase. According to him, this political organization must establish itself in every town, village, neighborhood, and within the diaspora in order to provide lasting support for the reforms underway.
While thanking the activists and officials present, Bassirou Diomaye Faye emphasized that his commitment now extends beyond the boundaries of his political camp. "I am the president of all Senegalese," he declared, insisting that the general interest must take precedence over any partisan considerations.
Reflecting on his experience as head of state, he emphasized the difference between being in opposition and exercising power. "When you are in opposition, you are not responsible for anything. But when you exercise power, you are responsible for everything," he declared, calling for governance based on responsibility and accountability.
The Head of State reaffirmed that Senegal's stability rests first and foremost on the strength of its institutions. According to him, neither slogans, nor crowds, nor personalities can guarantee a nation's future; only a strong Republic, supported by respected institutions, is capable of ensuring sustainable development and a peaceful democracy.
