Diomaye - Sonko: Le Capitaine Touré balance sur les « trahisons » internes et défend le Président
Captain Seydina Oumar Touré now fully embraces his political leanings and strategic choices. Invited to the Seneweb studios, the president of the Union for a Just Senegal (USJ) staunchly defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, while also launching pointed attacks against political leaders within the presidential coalition, whom he accuses of duplicity. The former gendarmerie officer bluntly asserts that the head of state has been the victim of internal betrayals. "Self-sacrifice to the nation means serving without expecting anything in return," he affirms, denouncing those who, in his words, crisscross the country "spreading lies" and boasting of "phantom achievements."
Emphasizing his independent spirit and personal journey, Seydina Oumar Touré addressed his relationship with the upper echelons of power. “In the army, we are taught to be good citizens. I have never belonged to PASTEF. I have only met Ousmane Sonko once or twice. I don’t need to appear on television to prove that I am doing the job I was appointed to do,” he explained, stressing his preference for concrete action over verbal sparring.
Looking back at the genesis of the presidential victory, the USJ leader traced the evolution of the electoral dynamic that initially bore the name "Sonko for President." When the project encountered legal obstacles, Bassirou Diomaye Faye became the alternative, giving rise to the "Diomaye for President" coalition. "At the time, Ousmane Sonko explained to us that Diomaye had the same qualities as him and that they were equals," the captain recalled.
However, according to the former gendarme, problems arose shortly after the takeover. He reveals that once the appointment decrees were signed, the official WhatsApp group of the "Diomaye President" coalition was unilaterally renamed "APTE" without any prior consultation with the allies. "From that moment on, I stopped participating in the group," he explains, illustrating the beginning of the friction.
The president of the USJ also addressed the public clashes and reprimands within the executive branch, specifically mentioning Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko's remarks towards certain ministers, such as Abdourahmane Diouf. According to him, this atmosphere demanded moral and political clarification. "If you disagree with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, you must face the consequences. You can't be against him while retaining your position as director general. That's dishonest," he stated categorically.
Openly acknowledging his close ties to the Head of State, Seydina Oumar Touré concluded his interview with a call for republican loyalty. "We fought for Bassirou Diomaye Faye to become president. Once he is elected, we cannot abandon him. I have chosen, with full responsibility, to continue serving my country alongside him," he reaffirmed.
