DPG du Premier ministre : Pourquoi la séance du 1er septembre n’est pas encore fixée
The date of the Prime Minister's general policy statement (DPG) has yet to be determined. In a letter sent on August 24 to the President of the National Assembly, the head of government proposed holding his DPG on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
But the presidential decree convening the National Assembly in extraordinary session did not specify a date for the plenary session.
In a clarification, the office of the National Assembly reminds everyone that the extraordinary session will indeed begin on September 1st, in accordance with decree no. 2026-1530 transmitted on August 25th.
However, this day will be devoted solely to opening the session, verifying the quorum and adjourning the meeting.
According to the bureau, setting the date for the General Policy Statement (DPG) is the prerogative of the President of the Republic. This is based in particular on Article 109 of the Rules of Procedure, which stipulates that the National Assembly must be informed at least eight days before the chosen date.
However, according to the parliamentary body, no date was proposed by the President of the Republic in the decree convening the session. The bureau also clarifies that the eight-day period must be calculated from the opening of the extraordinary session, not before.
The next step in the procedure should therefore take place at the level of the Conference of Presidents. This will be convened by the President of the National Assembly to set the date for the plenary session dedicated to the General Policy Document (DPG) and to determine the procedures for organizing the debates.
This clarification clears up the confusion surrounding the date and time of the Prime Minister's highly anticipated general policy statement.
