DPG : Le Parti socialiste salue une « inflexion » du discours, mais exige des résultats concrets
In the wake of Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lô's General Policy Statement (DPG), the Socialist Party (PS) has adopted a stance that is both critical and measured. In a policy paper entitled "DPG: From Recognizing Constraints to Demanding Results ," its spokesperson, Abdoulaye Vilane, acknowledges a positive shift in the government's rhetoric. However, for the Socialist Party, this new tone is not enough: after nearly three years in power, it is now time to take stock.
According to Abdoulaye Vilane, the Prime Minister's performance differs from that of his predecessor in its more pragmatic approach: "Compared to his predecessor's speeches, this one is undeniably more clear-sighted about the constraints our country faces," he writes. He praises a more responsible tone that seems to move away from mere promises, while reminding everyone that the political landscape now demands results. "After nearly thirty months in power, the political timeframe is no longer one of conquest. It is one of responsibility and accountability," the Socialist leader emphasizes.
From the "4th basement level" to the "5th floor": The Socialist Party raises concerns about the experiences of Senegalese people
Returning to the metaphors used by the government to describe the national economic situation, Abdoulaye Vilane offers a scathing critique. He recalls that the Executive branch previously described the situation as being "fourth basement level," before the new diagnosis presented during the General Policy Statement painted an even bleaker picture. "If we use their own metaphor, Senegal has therefore gone from the fourth to the fifth basement level," he remarks ironically, questioning what has actually changed in the daily lives of the population.
For the Socialist Party (PS), citizens expect immediate answers on priority issues: employment, the high cost of living, economic recovery, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. "Clarity is necessary, but in politics, it is only valuable when it leads to action," reminds Abdoulaye Vilane, warning that "politics cannot sustainably rely on deferred promises."
A vigilant opposition, without a spirit of revenge
Regarding the Socialist Party's strategic line, the spokesperson reaffirmed the choice of a republican and constructive opposition, far removed from any systematic rejection. "We do not confuse opposition with systematic rejection," he clarified, while promising constant vigilance regarding the commitments made before the national representatives.
In conclusion, the Socialist Party believes that while the shift in government rhetoric is welcome, it now places the full responsibility on the majority. "Senegal no longer simply expects the government to describe the constraints it faces. It expects action," concludes Abdoulaye Vilane.
