Dr Mansour Diop : « Ousmane Sonko a déclaré avoir géré 1,770 milliard, il doit également rendre des comptes »
The Director General of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital, Dr. Mansour Diop, spoke about the consequences of the break between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko, as well as several issues related to the functioning of institutions.
According to him, the president's resignation from the party would further weaken its political position. Referring to the situation of mayors who left their posts after being appointed to the government before recently being dismissed, he believes their return to the voters will not be without difficulties. "These officials will return to seek the people's trust. But the people may no longer view them in the same way, especially if their ministerial positions have not allowed them to remain close to their constituents," he explained.
Addressing the draft law on political funds, Dr. Mansour Diop believes the text should not target only the President of the Republic. In his view, the mechanism should apply to all public officials, including the Prime Minister. "Ousmane Sonko himself declared managing 1.77 billion CFA francs. He too must be held accountable. This requirement for transparency must be extended to all levels of the State, down to the functioning of political parties," he argued.
The director general of Le Dantec Hospital, however, warns against excessive control over presidential actions. He believes that a head of state must have sufficient leeway to fully exercise their prerogatives. "A president of the Republic must have the freedom to act. It would be a disaster if they were controlled on all fronts. When national security is invoked, the interests of the Republic must be protected. Every institution must be able to function freely, and the president must retain the ability to use these resources responsibly," he stated.
Returning to the tensions between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko, Dr. Mansour Diop believes that while the PASTEF party certainly brought the current head of state to power, certain internal attitudes subsequently contributed to weakening his political authority. Finally, when questioned about the term "fitna," he put the debate into perspective, stating that it refers to any attitude or action aimed at sowing discord and disrupting peace within society.
