Du ‘’cinéma’’ au Pont Émile Badiane : Idrissa Benjamin Sané de Kiiraay noie Guy Marius Sagna
Ziguinchor deserves better than a politicized visit. Mr. Guy Marius Sagna's visit to the Émile Badiane bridge, presented as a citizen's appeal, appears to many as a belated and politically motivated stunt. Idrissa Benjamin Sané, president of the Ziguinchor Rek Citizen Movement and founding member of the Kiiraay party, did not mince words: he accused the MP of playing a mere extra, absent when action was needed, and only vocal when the cameras were rolling.
Idrissa Benjamin Sané points out that the Émile Badiane bridge is a constant danger to the population, a problem denounced for years by civil society, opinion leaders, and the residents of Ziguinchor. Yet, Guy Marius Sagna remained silent, while his mentor, Ousmane Sonko, the all-powerful Prime Minister, controlled the conduct of state policy. "What did he do to resolve this vital issue? Nothing. And where were you?" Sané insists.
But Ziguinchor's problems aren't limited to the bridge. The city suffers from dilapidated roads, a lack of streetlights, insufficient infrastructure, insecurity, flooding, and sanitation problems. Young people lack opportunities, women struggle to access financing to develop their businesses, and thousands of young people resort to motorcycle taxis for lack of alternatives. "Where was the mayor of Ziguinchor, this same political leader, to address these urgent issues?" Sané continues, emphasizing the absence of concrete solutions.
According to him, it's too easy to point fingers now without mentioning that the current President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is indeed in office. But yesterday, when the former Prime Minister held all the power, no answers were provided. The phantom MP failed to bring his constituents' concerns to the National Assembly, nor did he provide regular reports on his actions.
Idrissa Sané also mentions the worrying situation of the Great Mosque of Ziguinchor, a spiritual and community symbol, ignored by local authorities. "It's not a question of religion, but of respect and knowledge of the realities of one's city," he insists.
