Élections locales : Mamadou Ndoye appelle au respect de la durée des mandats
Civil society intends to remain firm on respecting electoral deadlines. Mamadou Ndoye, a member of Sursaut Citoyen, reaffirmed this Wednesday that every mandate must be respected until its end before being renewed by the voters.
"A mandate is given for a specific period. When it expires, it must be renewed," he said at a press conference devoted to constitutional reform.
A position that Sursaut Citoyen says it wants to apply without distinction, including to the current government.
“ We stand for respect and we fought for it, including for this power,” Mamadou Ndoye recalled.
The civil society leader specifically referred to the struggle waged during the attempt to postpone the presidential election. "When they wanted to postpone the presidential election, we were at the forefront of this battle. Today, we are continuing along the same lines," he emphasized.
Through this stance, Sursaut Citoyen therefore defends a principle which it wants to remain constant: the length of a mandate and the respect for electoral deadlines should not depend on the interests of the power in place.
