Élections locales : Ousmane Sonko avertit contre tout report
Ousmane Sonko refuses to consider postponing the upcoming local elections. This Saturday in Bambey, the Pastef leader was firm on this point. "The political clarification phase is over; only the electoral clarification remains. And the people must decide. They say they've gutted Pastef, that they have all the mayors of Senegal, that they've taken all the Directors General, etc. What are they afraid of then? That we'll go to the elections. No one can postpone these elections, because they are governed by law," declared the Pastef leader.
For him, if the President of the Republic postpones these local elections, he will have violated the law and betrayed his oath to respect and uphold the law. "We must not forget that three lives were lost in the fight against the postponement of an election. The president who was here wanted to postpone it, and the people refused. This battle against the postponement brought us to power today. So what can justify, once in power, wanting to postpone the first election?" Ousmane Sonko exclaimed indignantly.
For him, the 2024 legislative elections were not on the republican agenda because they were held due to the dissolution of the National Assembly. But the local elections are included in the republican calendar. "It's mandatory. When an election is scheduled, we don't wait for someone to be ready or for someone else to finish building their party. So the election must be held in January 2025," asserts Ousmane Sonko.
He denounced the fact that, a few months before the local elections, the usual revision of the electoral lists has still not taken place.
