Élections territoriales 2027 : la violente charge de Modou Diagne Fada contre Diomaye Faye
In an interview with L'Observateur, Modou Diagne Fada, president of the LDR/Yessal party and member of the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), is very pessimistic about the holding of territorial elections in January 2027. According to the former minister, the attitude of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye "borders on electoral navel-gazing".
The opposition leader emphasizes that the government "shows no sign of intending to hold the election on time," lamenting the absence of the usual signals, including revisions to the electoral lists, consultations with political stakeholders, and official communication regarding the election schedule. He reiterates that "adherence to the electoral calendar is a democratic imperative" and believes that holding the election late should not become the norm.
Modou Diagne Fada specifically mentions the precedent of the January 2022 local elections, for which Decree No. 2021-1369 convening voters was published on October 15, 2021, less than three months before the vote. He believes that "such a situation should not occur in an electoral democracy like Senegal."
The interlocutor of the Future Media Group finally insists on the need to respect the different stages of the electoral process, including the setting of the deposit no later than August 20 and the filing of candidate lists scheduled from October 24 to 29.
