Élections territoriales : Amadou Bâ brandit le Code électoral et fixe la date butoir du 26 août
With the next territorial elections just months away, Pastef MP Amadou Bâ raises his voice and warns against any attempt to challenge the electoral calendar.
In a forceful statement, the parliamentarian attacks those he presents as "sycophants" who, according to him, are actively preparing public opinion for a possible violation of the electoral calendar.
"For the past few hours, we have been witnessing a spasmodic flurry of sycophants to prepare citizens for the political machinations of violating the electoral calendar," he denounces.
According to Amadou Bâ, some "flashy experts and flamboyant specialists" are seeking to remove the territorial elections from the legal calendar in order to postpone them "until the Greek calends and the cows come home".
The MP is particularly keen to point out that the territorial elections must, in his view, be held before Sunday, January 23, 2027.
But beyond the exact date of the election, Amadou Bâ emphasizes the preparatory steps stipulated by the Electoral Code. He specifically cites Articles L.247 and L.282, which govern the setting of the electoral deposit amount. According to his interpretation, the minister in charge of elections, in this case the Minister of the Interior, must set the amount of this deposit by decree no later than 150 days before the election date.
“August 26th is the last day to comply with this mandatory legal framework,” he asserts. For the Pastef MP, the question of the official election date may still be open to debate, but the preparatory steps are a matter of legal obligation.
"Everyone can speculate about the official date of the territorial elections, but the dates of the preparatory acts are a matter of public order," he insists.
Amadou Bâ does not limit himself to the legal argument. He also offers a political interpretation of the turmoil surrounding the electoral calendar.
According to him, those who are agitating about the date of the elections are mainly trying to mask "a deep fear" of returning to the voters after, he says, "so many broken promises".
The MP concluded with a warning: "The Senegalese people are vigilant, and will know how to assert their rights."

Wasalam
