Élections territoriales et priorités nationales : la position de l'ancien ministre Serigne Mbacké Ndiaye
As the political debate heats up around the timing of the territorial elections, former minister Serigne Mbacké Ndiaye calls for a refocusing of attention on the real national emergencies.
"The approach of the date of the territorial elections is stirring up the political debate, which is already very tense. Opposition parties, and even part of civil society, are making it their rallying cry. Television programs are devoted to this subject, as are the print and broadcast media," he stated from the outset, in a note received.
According to Serigne Mbacké Ndiaye, "all of this gives the impression that if these consultations don't take place on the scheduled date, there will be chaos, which is not the case." "Quite the contrary. He points out that the impression given to the people is that only the elections are essential, whereas the priorities, in his humble opinion, lie elsewhere," he states.
The former minister under Abdoulaye Wade emphasizes that the country's economic and financial situation, the social climate, the floods, the high cost of living, insecurity—and the list goes on—are all issues that deserve attention. But nothing. Elections, always elections, more elections, and nothing but elections.
Before continuing, he added: “Yes, elections are an important moment in the democratic life of a nation. But they should not be considered the central issue of our lives. Elections or not, the Senegalese suffer, suffer, and suffer.”
He added: "So let's put pressure on the Government to force a break with what we are witnessing. This is the fight worth fighting."
