Élections territoriales : Moussa Tine dénonce le manque de visibilité sur le calendrier
With the territorial elected officials' term expiring in January 2027, the president of the "Pencco" Democratic Alliance, Moussa Tine, is warning about the delay in preparations for the next territorial elections and the lack of visibility on their schedule.
The former MP believes that Senegal is not yet legally unable to hold the elections, but considers the current uncertainty surrounding their preparation to be worrying. He points out that his party had already urged the government to anticipate the various steps necessary for holding the elections.
For Moussa Tine, the election date must be known well in advance by all political actors and voters, to allow them to prepare properly. "It is not normal that only one side knows when the local elections will be held," he declares.
The leader of "Pencco" acknowledges that the Electoral Code provides mechanisms that could allow for a postponement of the election in certain circumstances. However, he insists that such a measure must remain exceptional, be duly justified, and be subject to consultation with the various stakeholders.
Moussa Tine advocates, for this purpose, the opening of discussions on several issues likely to have an impact on the electoral process, including the implementation of Act 4 of decentralization, national identity cards and the revision of the electoral lists.
He believes that anticipation of operations and dialogue between stakeholders are necessary to preserve the visibility of the electoral calendar and guarantee the credibility of the upcoming territorial elections.
