Face à la crise, Mansour Faye tranche : La seule décision radicale qu'il exige du chef de l'État !
Former Minister of Transport and member of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), Mansour Faye, has broken his silence with a scathing op-ed. Delivering a highly critical assessment of the Pastef party's management of power, the politician openly calls on President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to use his constitutional prerogatives to dissolve the National Assembly.
In his text, Mansour Faye deplores the current governance and believes that the regime in power has strayed from its initial promises. According to him, Pastef "has primarily established a new way of doing politics: one of confrontation, division, and a severe test of our republican values and social cohesion." Addressing the country's socio-economic situation, he paints a stark picture: "Our economy is struggling; our public finances are under strain; trust has eroded."
The inappropriateness of a referendum
Faced with the proposed institutional reforms and public consultations envisioned by the government, the former minister believes the country's priorities lie elsewhere. While acknowledging that "accountability is a social demand," he maintains that "a serious government must know how to prioritize emergencies." Rejecting what he calls "new institutional distractions," Mansour Faye reiterates that "Senegal's urgent priorities are the economy, employment, debt, purchasing power, investment, and security."
The former government member then addressed the head of state directly, urging him to fully assert his institutional authority. "You were elected President of the Republic. You were not elected to be someone's shadow, nor to govern under someone else's influence," he insisted, calling on the president not to allow a "confusion of responsibilities at the highest level of the state."
Considering that the current parliamentary majority no longer meets the needs for stability, Mansour Faye advocates a return to the polls rather than holding a referendum. "The priority is not the referendum that is being announced [...] but rather political clarification. To achieve this, there is only one way: the dissolution of the National Assembly," he asserts.
