Hausse des prix du carburant : la réplique d’Idrissa Benjamin Sané de Kiiraay Ziguinchor à Amadou Ba
Journalist and communicator Idrissa Benjamin Sané, a member of the Kiiray party in Ziguinchor, delivered a sharp response to Amadou Ba's remarks on the increase in fuel prices, denouncing a political manipulation and recalling that even under Ousmane Sonko, an increase had been deemed inevitable.
In his statement, Idrissa Benjamin Sané was keen to set the record straight. According to him, it is misleading to suggest to Senegalese people that sovereignty alone would have been enough to avoid price adjustments. "Sovereignty cannot be decreed," he asserted, recalling that Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, former Minister of the Interior under Sonko, had already announced a fuel price increase. For Sané, blaming the IMF is "Pastef-style demagoguery" and a "witch hunt" that will not stand.
The journalist didn't hesitate to call Amadou Ba a "casual entertainer," accustomed to nonsense and empty pronouncements. He emphasized that even nationalizing the oil wells wouldn't shield Senegal from global price fluctuations, particularly in a context marked by the conflict in the Middle East. For him, this isn't a price increase imposed upon him, but an adjustment dictated by international realities.
Beyond the political controversy, Idrissa Benjamin Sané calls for protecting consumers from speculation by merchants and transporters, who could pass on the price increase to food and transportation costs. He warns of the risk of soaring prices that would further weaken the purchasing power of the population.
He also criticizes Ousmane Sonko for failing to renegotiate mining contracts during his two years in power, which he believes proves these agreements "are not worthless." He concludes that Sonko and his team were either incompetent or fully aware of the legal soundness of these contracts.
Finally, Idrissa Benjamin Sané reaffirmed his confidence in President Bassirou Diomaye Faye (BDF), whom he described as a leader loyal to his people and impervious to pressure from the IMF or the World Bank. "The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on," he concluded, demonstrating his determination and composure in the face of criticism.
